Torque & Stress Analysis

This section estimates how the input torque is distributed through the planetary set and rates each gear mesh against the ANSI/AGMA 2101-D04 contact (pitting) and bending strength method, using the epicyclic load-sharing factor Kγ from ANSI/AGMA 6123-C16. Enter your loading, material allowables, and rating factors, then Calculate to see the torque split and a mesh-by-mesh safety-factor check. Results are a first-pass design estimate, not a substitute for detailed analysis or testing.

Assumptions & limitations
  • Spur teeth, standard 20° involute geometry, single planet stage.
  • Steady-state torque; transient/shock loads are approximated only through the overload factor Ko.
  • Ideal load sharing among planets unless adjusted by Kγ.
  • Geometry factors (ZI, YJ), elastic coefficient (ZE), and allowable stresses are user inputs — defaults are typical values, not certified data for your specific design.
  • Lubrication, misalignment, and manufacturing quality are captured only through the rating factors you supply.
  • Results are a preliminary design estimate for screening and comparison; verify critical designs with detailed calculation and physical testing.
